The Lagos State Government, through its Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), has launched an urgent public appeal to locate a TikTok user identified as Mirabel (@mirab351), following her distressing account of being raped in her apartment by an intruder.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the DSVA confirmed it is actively trying to contact the survivor to provide immediate medical and psychosocial support but has so far been unable to reach her.
The manhunt for the survivor began after Mirabel posted a viral video on Monday, detailing a horrific assault she claims occurred on Sunday, February 15. According to her account, she had been suffering from insomnia and had taken alcohol to sleep around 6 a.m. She was later awakened by a knock on her door at approximately 9 a.m.
“I thought it was my neighbour… immediately I opened the door, I got pushed back, I hit my head on the fridge and passed out,” she recounted.
Mirabel stated that upon regaining consciousness, she found a man assaulting her with a cloth stuffed in her mouth. She alleged the assailant left her bleeding and injured.
Compounding the horror, Mirabel shared screenshots of messages she allegedly received from the suspect, who identified himself as “Priston.”
In the texts, the suspect not only confessed to the crime but taunted her, claiming he had “paid boys” to facilitate his entry and that his father had the financial influence to “bury the case.”
“You can’t find me, and you don’t even have the money… in the nearest future, maybe 4 to 5 years we would meet again and we would date,” the message reportedly read.
On Tuesday, the situation took a darker turn when Mirabel posted a subsequent video in tears, implying she had attempted suicide by ingesting a toxic substance before being rushed to a hospital by a friend.
Reacting to the public outcry and the trending hashtag #StopRapingWomen, the DSVA urged anyone with credible information on Mirabel’s whereabouts to contact them via their social media channels or toll-free lines.
“If anyone has credible information that can help us reach her directly and safely, please contact the Agency,” the statement read. “Sexual assault is a crime, and every survivor deserves protection, care, support, and justice.”
The Lagos State Police Command has also stepped in. Spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that the case has been forwarded to the Command’s Gender Unit.
“I have also reached out to her through her TikTok handle. I sincerely hope she responds so as to assist the Police in conducting a thorough investigation,” Adebisi stated.
This incident marks the second high-profile rape allegation surfacing on TikTok in Lagos within a week. It follows a similar report by another user, Fems (@femsbaby_x), who alleged she was raped alongside a friend after a modeling shoot.
Her case is reportedly now being handled by the Ikeja Gender Unit with legal assistance provided by Barrister Dami Marshall. The Lagos DSVA has encouraged survivors to report incidents through their toll-free line 0-8000-333-333 or via the website ekoselfreport.ng.
