Popular Nigerian singer, Simi, has called for extreme punitive measures against sexual offenders, stating that rapists should be “castrated and burnt alive” to curb the menace of sexual violence against women.
The Duduke crooner expressed her anger on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, reacting to the distressing story of a TikTok user identified as Mirabel, who recently detailed a horrific sexual assault ordeal in her own home.
“I’m sickkk of this. STOP RAPING WOMEN. They need to castrate rapists and burn them,” Simi wrote in a post that has since sparked intense conversation online.
Simi’s outburst follows a viral video posted by Mirabel on February 15, in which the young woman tearfully recounted being attacked by an intruder she initially mistook for a neighbor.
According to Mirabel’s harrowing account, the assailant forced his way into her apartment, knocked her unconscious, and raped her.
She later received chilling messages from a user named “Priston,” who confessed to the crime and taunted her for rejecting his previous advances. The suspect also claimed to have the financial influence to bury the case.
Simi, known for her vocal stance on social issues affecting women, joins a growing chorus of Nigerians demanding justice for Mirabel and other survivors of sexual violence.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed it is actively monitoring the situation and attempting to locate the survivor to provide support and initiate legal action.
The incident has reignited debates about the safety of women in Nigeria and the adequacy of current laws in deterring sexual predators.
