Paris Saint Germain defender and Morocco national team captain Achraf Hakimi is set to face trial over an allegation of rape.
French media outlets confirmed the news on Tuesday. Judicial sources and the legal team of the player provided the confirmation.
The legal issue started from a complaint filed on February 26, 2023. A 24 year old woman claimed that the footballer raped her at his home near Paris. The two individuals met on social media before she visited his house late on February 24.
Five days after she made the complaint, authorities issued a formal indictment against the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan player. Prosecutors in Nanterre requested that the case move to a criminal court in August 2025.
The confirmation on Tuesday shows that the investigation stage is over. The investigating judge has decided that the case must proceed to trial.
The 27 year old player has consistently denied the accusations. He insists that their encounter was fully consensual.
Hakimi expressed his frustration with the legal process in a statement posted on X on Tuesday. He also restated his innocence.
“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I deny it and everything proves it is false,” Hakimi wrote.
“This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly,” he added.
The court has not yet announced a public date for the trial.
