The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly assaulting police officers and obstructing them from carrying out their lawful duties in Bauchi metropolis.

The suspects, identified as Friday, whose surname was not disclosed, and Yunana Ali, were arrested on October 3, 2026, along Yelwa Road in Bauchi.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

Habib said the suspects were intercepted by operatives attached to the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team during a routine enforcement operation under Operation Velvet.

According to the police spokesperson, the officers stopped the suspects and requested that they produce their vehicle documents for inspection.

He said the suspects allegedly refused to comply with the officers’ request and subsequently became hostile towards the patrol team.

The situation reportedly escalated when the men allegedly assaulted the police officers and attempted to obstruct them from carrying out their duties.

The police said the suspects were subsequently arrested and taken into custody for investigation.

The command said the arrest formed part of ongoing efforts to enforce traffic and other relevant laws while maintaining public order across Bauchi State.

Police authorities reiterated that members of the public are expected to cooperate with officers carrying out lawful duties, particularly during routine enforcement operations.

The command also urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing that resistance or physical confrontation with police officers would be investigated in accordance with the law.

The suspects are expected to face further investigation as the police determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and obstruction.

The Bauchi Police Command said members of the public should report suspicious activities and cooperate with security personnel to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace and security across the state.
