The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi, and Azeez Yusuf over what the party described as anti-party activities and disloyalty.
The decision was announced on Wednesday by the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, in a statement explaining the disciplinary action against the two former members.
According to the party, Egunjobi and Yusuf participated in the APC’s 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process for Agege Constituencies I and II respectively, but did not secure the party’s tickets.
The party said the two subsequently obtained nomination tickets from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to contest the same constituencies, a move it characterised as contrary to the obligations of APC membership.
Egunjobi, a former chairman of Agege Local Government, contested the APC nomination for Agege Constituency I, while Yusuf sought the ticket for Agege Constituency II.
The development follows disputes surrounding the outcome of the APC nomination exercises. Reports indicate that both politicians challenged the results and later emerged as APM candidates for the respective constituencies.
Ojelabi said the APC expected members who were unsuccessful in internal contests to either accept the outcome or pursue available avenues for redress within the party and under the law.
He said seeking an alternative political platform during the same electoral cycle after participating in the APC nomination process amounted, in the party’s view, to a breach of its rules.
The Lagos APC said it invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against Egunjobi and Yusuf.
The party subsequently declared that the two men were no longer members of the APC and warned that neither had authority to represent the party, negotiate on its behalf or conduct any business in the name of the Lagos State APC or the wider organisation.
The party also urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the change in their status.
The expulsion has added another layer to the political contest surrounding the two Agege constituencies ahead of the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election.
Following their emergence under the APM, Egunjobi is set to contest against the APC’s candidate for Agege Constituency I, while Yusuf will face the APC candidate in Constituency II, according to reports on the nomination process.

However, the two politicians have disputed the circumstances surrounding their departure from the APC. In a separate response, Egunjobi and Yusuf said they had resigned from the party in July, weeks before the Lagos APC announced their expulsion. They also maintained that their decision to contest under the APM was independent and followed their dissatisfaction with the handling of the disputed primaries.
They said they had sought internal redress over the primaries but were dissatisfied with the response from the party leadership.
The latest development therefore places the two politicians formally outside the APC as they proceed with their APM candidacies, while the dispute over the nomination process continues to shape the political contest in Agege.
