Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Sunday received Vice President Kashim Shettima in Port Harcourt ahead of the 163rd Nigeria Army Day Celebration scheduled to hold in the state.

Shettima, who arrived as the representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is in Rivers State to participate in the series of activities marking the annual military event, with the grand finale set for Monday, July 6, 2026.

The Vice President’s visit underscores the federal government’s support for the Nigerian Army and its ongoing efforts in maintaining national security and territorial integrity.

Upon arrival, Shettima was welcomed by Governor Fubara and other top government officials, as well as military authorities, in what signals the importance attached to this year’s celebration.

The Nigeria Army Day Celebration is an annual event dedicated to honouring the sacrifices, resilience, and contributions of officers and soldiers in safeguarding the nation. It also serves as a platform to showcase the Army’s operational capabilities and strengthen civil-military relations.
