The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worsened on Thursday as several key allies and associates of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced their resignation from the party amid growing internal divisions.
PDP has faced persistent factional disputes in recent months, with rival camps reportedly loyal either to Governor Makinde or the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
indicate that no fewer than ten notable party members in Oyo State have now exited the party, further intensifying concerns over the PDP’s stability ahead of future elections.
Among those who resigned are gubernatorial aspirant Olufemi Oguntoyinbo, the governor’s Special Adviser on Security Fatai Owoseni, and Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area Akeem Olatunji.
Others who reportedly dumped the PDP include Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly Abiodun Fadeyi and members of the House of Representatives Anthony Adepoju, Abass Adigun, and Adedeji Olajide.
speculation is mounting that the defectors may be heading to the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), none of those who resigned publicly disclosed their next political platform.

The wave of resignations is seen as a significant political development in Oyo State, where Makinde has remained one of the PDP’s influential figures in the South-West region.
Political observers say the latest defections could reshape the balance of power within the party and deepen existing tensions between competing blocs at the national level.
Neither the Oyo State chapter of the PDP nor Governor Makinde had officially reacted to the resignations as of the time of filing this report.
