Former Senator Shehu Sani has confirmed that former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode personally requested his redeployment from Germany to South Africa following reports surrounding his diplomatic posting.
Sani, in a statement posted on X on Thursday, said he was fully aware that Fani-Kayode initiated the request to have his posting changed from Germany to South Africa for what he described as “purely personal” reasons.
“I’m fully aware that Chief Fani Kayode was the one who requested that his posting to Germany be changed to South Africa. His reason for the request is purely personal,” Sani wrote.
The former Kaduna Central lawmaker’s clarification comes amid growing public reactions over the reported redeployment of Fani-Kayode as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany.

Earlier reports had suggested that the former minister was reassigned after concerns emerged over the initial diplomatic posting. However, Fani-Kayode had maintained that the move was based on his personal preference rather than any official controversy.
Although details of the personal reasons behind the request were not disclosed, Sani’s intervention appeared aimed at countering speculation surrounding the redeployment.
Fani-Kayode, a prominent political figure and former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, has remained active in national political discourse in recent years.
Neither the Federal Government nor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the diplomatic redeployment.
