National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has said the defection of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the party would not weaken its chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Forum of ADC Former and Serving Federal Lawmakers in Abuja on Wednesday, Mark admitted that the departure of the two prominent political figures would have some effect on the party but insisted that the ADC remained focused on rebuilding and expanding its national structure.

According to him, the exit of Obi and Kwankwaso would instead motivate the party leadership and members to intensify efforts toward presenting credible candidates capable of winning future elections.

Mark assured Nigerians that the ADC would not struggle to produce competent leaders, stressing that the party was committed to strengthening internal democracy and positioning itself as a viable alternative in the country’s political landscape.

“We will continue to work hard and ensure that the ADC produces credible and capable candidates that Nigerians can trust in 2027,” he said.

The former Senate President also urged party members to remain united and committed despite recent political developments, noting that defections are common in Nigeria’s political environment.

Obi and Kwankwaso are regarded as influential political figures with strong support bases across different parts of the country, and their reported exit from the ADC had generated reactions within political circles.

However, Mark maintained that the party’s future does not depend on a few individuals, adding that the ADC would continue consultations and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the next election cycle.

The meeting in Abuja was attended by former and serving federal lawmakers affiliated with the party, with discussions centred on party reorganisation and preparations for future political contests.
