Popular Yoruba film actress, Debbie Shokoya, has firmly shut down circulating rumors alleging that veteran Fuji musician Abass Akande, widely known as Obesere, is her biological father.

The speculations caught fire recently following a viral Facebook post which claimed the actress had made a “shocking confession.”

The misleading post alleged that Shokoya had tearfully revealed she could no longer keep the secret of her true parentage, quoting her as saying: “Obesere is my biological father, actress Debbie Shokoya disclose ‘it’s time, I couldn’t keep it anymore!'”

However, taking to her Instagram page, Shokoya released a video categorically denying the claims, condemning the reports as a calculated attempt by bloggers to chase online clout.

The actress explained that while she initially dismissed the rumor as a mere social media joke, she was forced to publicly address it after it began gaining significant, widespread traction.

“My attention was drawn to it yesterday that a blog on Facebook claimed I cried out that Obesere is my father. It was funny to me at first; it felt like Facebook clickbait, so I didn’t want to address it,” Shokoya stated in the video.

“But now it isn’t funny anymore, the news is everywhere. People are posting it, including my family, asking when I granted an interview saying that.

“So I decided to address it now so people won’t think I actually said it for clout. I have never seen him before. Don’t I look like my father? Am I not my biological father’s replica,” she continued.

In the caption accompanying her Instagram post, the actress issued a stern warning to those peddling the false narrative, urging the public to disregard the rumors completely.

“Obesere is not my biological father. Please stop spreading fake news. Stop writing or posting things I never said. Some commentators don’t even think before reacting; they just start throwing insults,” she wrote.

Shokoya also challenged the platforms that circulated the initial false report to exhibit the same energy in sharing her rebuttal.

“I have never said or written this, nor did I cry out as they claimed. Please stop spreading false news. Bloggers should also post this video the same way they were quick to share that misinformation,” she concluded.
