A viral video of Nigerian Afrobeats star Teni has captured the singer boldly defying instructions from security personnel to access the VIP section during an International Women’s Day (IWD) event in Akwa Ibom State.
The political gathering, held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, was attended by top dignitaries, including First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In the trending footage, Teni, who appeared as the guest artiste for the occasion, was seen entertaining the large crowd with her 2018 hit single, “Case”. As the performance progressed, she attempted to approach the highly secured VIP seating area.
Security orderlies immediately moved in, trying to hold her back and block her access to the dignitaries. Undeterred, the singer managed to push past the personnel and successfully gained entry into the exclusive section.
Once inside the VIP area, Teni engaged Senate President Akpabio and Governor Eno, encouraging them to sing along to a portion of her song before seamlessly transitioning into another of her popular hits, “Uyo Meyo”.
The video also captured a moment where Teni knelt in front of First Lady Remi Tinubu, who appeared to be correcting or instructing the singer about an uncertain issue amidst the performance.
Reflecting on the successful event in a Facebook post, Governor Umo Eno expressed his gratitude to the First Lady for her attendance and encouraging remarks regarding the state’s progress in women’s development.
“I joined thousands of women across Akwa Ibom State at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day, with the Wife of the President, Distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, as Special Guest,” the governor wrote.
Eno also used the platform to reassure the residents of Akwa Ibom of the federal government’s commitment to critical infrastructural projects, notably the Ibom Deep Seaport and the ongoing Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway.
Furthermore, the event doubled as a political rally ahead of the next general elections. According to the governor, the women of Akwa Ibom State formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and himself for the upcoming 2027 elections.
