Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, the legal counsel representing Sophia Momodu in her custody dispute with popular singer Davido over their daughter Imade, has demanded N1 billion in damages from the Afrobeats star, citing alleged cyberbullying, harassment, and a threat to her life.

The controversy was sparked after a highly charged court hearing in February. Following the session, Davido took to social media to announce that he was withdrawing his bid for joint custody.

In his posts, the singer accused Enedah of bringing up his late son during the legal proceedings, a move he described as a “low blow.” Davido subsequently shared the lawyer’s name online, mistakenly tagging gospel artist Tosin Bee in the process.

The online posts directed significant attention and backlash toward Enedah, prompting her legal team to issue a strong condemnation of the harassment.

In a demand letter dated February 24, Enedah’s legal representatives stated that Davido’s “libelous” actions have severely damaged her reputation and endangered her safety.

They argued that Davido publicly labeling her “the worst lawyer ever” was a malicious attempt to ruin her professional standing merely because she was carrying out her duties.

“The aggregate effect of your conduct has been devastating. Our Client a Partner at PUNUKA Attorneys & Solicitors, a legal practitioner of over twenty (20) years’ post-call experience, and a professional of impeccable standing has, as a direct and proximate consequence of your actions, suffered severe damage to her professional reputation, acute emotional distress, well-founded fear for her own life and the lives of her family members, and tangible harm to her professional practice,” the letter stated.

The letter also emphasized that a child custody dispute should not be turned into internet fodder.

“To publicly brand a lawyer of her standing as ‘THE WORST LAWYER EVER’ is not the expression of grievance. It is a deliberate and malicious act of reputational destruction, targeted at counsel for the singular reason that she discharged her professional duty with competence and without fear,” the document continued.

“It is equally settled that proceedings concerning the custody and welfare of a minor are not fit for public commentary, sensationalism, or social media spectacle.”

Enedah’s legal team outlined several strict demands, giving Davido a seven-day ultimatum to comply or face a lawsuit at the Lagos High Court.

They demanded that Davido immediately cease and desist from making any direct or indirect comments, posts, or statements regarding Enedah, the opposing counsel, or the ongoing court proceedings.

Additionally, the singer must issue a clear and unequivocal public apology across all his verified social media platforms, expressly withdrawing all derogatory statements.

He is required to direct his followers and associates to immediately stop any harassment directed at Enedah and her family.

A formal written apology must also be published on his social media platforms, tagging Enedah’s handle, and in at least two widely circulated national daily newspapers in Nigeria. Finally, the lawyer is demanding the payment of N1 billion as compensation for the damages caused.

The statement concluded with a stern warning, noting that should the singer fail to comply with the demands within seven days from the receipt of the letter, Enedah’s legal team would commence an action against him at the high court of Lagos.
