Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has accused Leke Abejide, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise, of attempting to provoke a leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a post on his Facebook page, Melaye stated that Abejide, who represents the Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State, has been expelled by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). He described Abejide as a “disgrace” to the party and insisted that there is no existing faction within the ADC.
“I want to state categorically that there is no faction in ADC. Leke Abejide is an imbecile; he is not okay,” Melaye wrote, further criticizing Abejide’s conduct and credibility.
Melaye accused Abejide of displaying questionable behavior, saying: “When a man laughs when nothing is funny, you know that something is wrong with his medulla oblongata. A bleaching member of the House of Reps like him, who is now partyless, has been completely suspended by the party.”

He added that Abejide’s suspension and expulsion reflect a broader disappointment with the lawmaker’s performance, particularly given the high standards historically set by representatives from Okun land. “It is a sorry state, and on behalf of Leke Abejide, we are very sorry to the people of Okun land and Nigerians,” Melaye stated.
The former senator contrasted Abejide with notable past representatives from Okun land, citing veteran lawyer Shola Ojo, journalist Duro Meseko, and his own tenure, highlighting what he described as a decline in leadership quality.
Melaye’s remarks come amid rising tensions within the ADC, with members closely watching the party’s handling of internal discipline and the management of its leadership structure. While he criticized Abejide personally, Melaye stressed that the party remains united, rejecting claims of factional divisions.
The ADC has yet to issue an official response to Melaye’s statements. Party insiders, however, confirmed that disciplinary measures, including suspension and expulsion, were carried out following established procedures by the National Working Committee.
