More than 400,000 Nigerians have applied for the ongoing Nigeria Police Force recruitment exercise, far exceeding the 50,000 vacancies available nationwide, prompting the Police Service Commission (PSC) to extend the application deadline by two weeks.

The PSC announced the extension to allow more eligible candidates complete their applications and to address technical challenges reported on the recruitment portal since the exercise began. The commission said the overwhelming response reflects the high demand for employment and sustained public interest in joining the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the PSC, applicants are competing for constable positions across the country, with submissions cutting across all states of the federation. The commission noted that the extension would also give room for applicants who encountered network issues or incomplete documentation to regularise their entries.

The recruitment exercise, which is being conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal security and improve police manpower. Authorities say increasing the number of personnel is critical to addressing rising security challenges and enhancing effective policing at the community level.

PSC officials reiterated that the process remains free and merit-based, warning applicants to avoid touts and fraudsters claiming to offer shortcuts into the force. They stressed that only candidates who meet the required criteria and successfully scale the screening stages will be considered for enlistment.

With the new deadline, the commission urged interested and qualified Nigerians to take advantage of the extension, assuring that transparency and fairness would guide the remainder of the recruitment process. The PSC added that details of the next stages, including physical and aptitude screenings, would be communicated to shortlisted candidates in due course.
