Two-time heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury, has shocked the boxing world by announcing that he will train himself without a coach for his upcoming return to the ring against Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11.

The 37-year-old “Gypsy King,” who has been out of action for 16 months following two consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk, revealed his unorthodox approach during an appearance on the 5 Live Boxing podcast.

Fury, known for his unpredictable nature, dismissed the need for a traditional support team, insisting that his experience is sufficient to reclaim his spot at the top of the division.

In characteristic fashion, Fury outlined his minimalist requirements for the upcoming bout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“I don’t need a trainer, I don’t need a nutritionist, I don’t need a mind coach, I don’t need a sleep coach, and I definitely don’t need a strength coach.

“Here’s what I need in boxing: someone to wash my gum shield out, give me water between rounds, and smear Vaseline across my eyes. Leave the rest to me,” Fury declared.

This decision marks a significant departure from his previous setup under SugarHill Steward, who had been instrumental in guiding Fury’s style since 2019.

At his first press conference since announcing his return, Fury was in high spirits, engaging in playful banter with his opponent, Makhmudov, and promising to “make boxing great again.” Despite his recent setbacks against Usyk, Fury remains supremely confident in his abilities.

“I bring the X Factor to this game, and there’s nobody else alive today that can bring more X Factor to boxing than Tyson Fury,” he stated.

With a professional record of 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, Fury’s return is one of the most anticipated events on the 2026 boxing calendar, as fans wait to see if the self-trained heavyweight can defy the odds once more.
