Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has recounted his political journey into the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), revealing that it took him a year to decide to join the party in 2013.
Soludo made the disclosure on Wednesday in Awka while receiving 15,000 former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who defected to APGA.
Addressing the crowd, Soludo said, “The first political party I joined was the PDP, and I was the governorship candidate in the 2010 election. During that period, I worked closely with many of you. It took me one year to decide to join APGA in 2013. Though I was disqualified as a governorship candidate after joining, I remained steadfast because I knew APGA was my final destination.”
Now serving as the governor of Anambra State and national leader of APGA, Soludo described the party as the first truly progressive political movement in Nigeria, founded in 2002. “APGA is not just a political party; it is a movement where everyone is equal and no one is left behind,” he added.

He urged the new members to register at their respective ward levels to complete their APGA membership and take advantage of the party’s cooperative initiatives aimed at empowering its members.
Earlier, the State Chairman of APGA, Mr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, officially welcomed the defectors and praised Governor Soludo’s inclusive leadership style, which he said had inspired mass defection from other parties.
Speaking on behalf of the new APGA members, Mr. Chukwudi Umeaba, former PDP State Chairman, said their move was motivated by Soludo’s people-centered governance. “We have collapsed the PDP structure into APGA to join the winning team and support the governor in delivering his development agenda for Anambra,” Umeaba said.
