Nigerian singer Busola Oke, popular for her 2004 hit song Eleyele, has opened up about her current financial problems and feelings of deep loneliness.
The singer posted a video where she cried while talking to her fans. She complained about the heavy challenges of surviving in the Nigerian music industry today.
She explained that having musical talent is no longer enough to make money or guarantee stability. She revealed that she lacks paid performance opportunities. She also mentioned that her current situation has badly affected her mental health and made her feel very isolated.
“Gift cannot do you anything in this Nigeria. No. To my fans, I am so sorry. I am sorry. I never planned to do this. But I cannot take this anymore. I am done. Good music does not sell anymore,” she said while sobbing in the video.
She asked several emotional questions to show her pain and frustration.
“How can you eat when there is no food? How can you drive when there is no car? How can you be at peace when there is no peace? How can you feel not alone, when you are alone?” she asked.
Busola Oke has other popular songs to her name. These include Ogo Tuntun, Asoro Ma Tase, Alanu and Adaba. She lived in the United Kingdom for some years before she moved back to Nigeria in 2016.
