A 43-year-old man identified as Lateef Suleiman has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly beating his 52-year-old elder brother, Mustapha Amidu, to death with a heavy rock in Sepeteri, Oyo State. The tragic incident reportedly occurred after the suspect accused his brother of shooting him in a dream.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspect woke up from his sleep convinced that his elder brother had attacked him in the dream. Rather than dismissing the nightmare, Suleiman allegedly sought out his brother to retaliate.
The police spokesperson revealed that the incident was reported by one Badmus Yunisa of Alegunlode Compound in Sepeteri. According to the report, Suleiman approached the deceased where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, and violently struck him on the head before immediately fleeing the scene.
Following the attack, Mustapha was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri for emergency medical attention. However, he did not survive the severe head injuries and was officially confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty.
Police operatives from the Ago-Amodu Divisional Headquarters swiftly mobilized, visiting both the crime scene and the hospital to conduct preliminary investigative procedures.
The fleeing suspect was subsequently tracked down and apprehended by the authorities. The police command confirmed that Suleiman has since confessed to the crime and is currently cooperating with investigators.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The command assured the public that a discreet and comprehensive investigation would be conducted, emphasizing that justice will be pursued diligently and in accordance with the law.
