Galatasaray’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, has sent a strong message to Liverpool ahead of their highly anticipated UEFA Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash.

This comes as reports indicate that European giants FC Barcelona are closely monitoring the Nigerian forward’s situation for a potential summer move.

The 27-year-old forward is heading into the European fixture riding a massive wave of confidence following his match-winning performance in the Istanbul derby on Saturday.

Osimhen scored the decisive header to secure a 1-0 victory over Besiktas, shattering the hosts’ 18-match unbeaten run and extending Galatasaray’s lead in the Turkish Super Lig to seven points over close rivals Fenerbahce.

The goal marked his 11th in the league this season and extended his impressive goal-contribution streak to eight consecutive matches, matching the longest run of his professional career previously set during his prolific time at Napoli in early 2023.

Speaking on Galatasaray’s official YouTube channel after the derby win, Osimhen expressed his team’s readiness to take on the six-time Champions League winners, Liverpool.

“It’s beautiful to play this type of team in the Champions League. Of course, it gives us some sort of satisfaction knowing that we are playing one of the best teams in the world. But we are also one of the best teams,” Osimhen declared.

“I think with the way we played today [Saturday], with the strength and togetherness we showed on the pitch, even after going a man down, we showed great qualities. We will carry this momentum into the next Champions League game and give everything. I think we also have an edge in front of our fans. Their support will go a long way.”

Osimhen has been an instrumental figure for the Turkish champions in Europe this season, boasting seven goals and two assists in eight Champions League appearances.

Notably, he already has a history of scoring against Jurgen Klopp’s men, having netted the only goal in Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool during the group stage.

The Nigerian talisman reiterated the club’s lofty ambitions on the continental stage. “I spoke with the president when I arrived here, and we agreed that we want to make a statement in the Champions League,” he said earlier this season. “We’ve dominated the Turkish league for years, but now we want to show that we can compete with the best teams in Europe.”

Barcelona Lurking for Summer Move

While Osimhen’s immediate focus is on defeating Liverpool, his red-hot form has reportedly caught the attention of the top brass at FC Barcelona.

According to reports from The Athletic, Osimhen is highly admired by the Catalan club’s hierarchy, who view him as a prime candidate to lead their attack should veteran striker Robert Lewandowski depart this summer. The Nigerian’s blend of explosive pace, physical power, and clinical finishing is seen as a perfect fit for Barcelona’s tactical setup.

However, Barcelona will not be alone in the race for his signature. Several other European heavyweights, including Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Chelsea, are also reported to be keeping close tabs on the striker, who joined Galatasaray for a record transfer fee last summer and quickly cemented his status as a fan favorite.
