In a recent post shared on Instagram, the organizers revealed that the names of the nominees for the 12th edition of the prestigious awards ceremony will be broadcast live on March 29, 2026.
MultiChoice also announced that award-winning actor Chimezie Imo will serve as the official host for this year’s nominee announcement event.

The journey to the 12th AMVCA officially kicked off in January when organizers opened the call for entries. Submissions from eligible filmmakers and content creators across the African continent were accepted between January 11 and February 15.
According to MultiChoice, this year’s edition will continue its long-standing tradition of celebrating exceptional African storytelling while shining a spotlight on the creativity, growth, and global potential of the continent’s booming entertainment industry.
Organizers also noted a significant partnership for the upcoming edition, announcing Don Julio as the lead sponsor. This collaboration is described as a key part of the awards’ evolution into a premium cultural platform that celebrates African creativity and craftsmanship.
The 2026 AMVCA will introduce several new categories aimed at expanding its indigenous language awards. In total, the 12th edition will feature 32 award categories.
This includes 18 jury-decided categories, 11 categories voted on by the audience, two Lifetime Achievement awards, and one Trailblazer award.
The main awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in Lagos in May 2026, with organizers promising to release further details in the coming months.
