Onos Brisibi, the renowned gospel singer whose angelic voice defined a generation of classic Nollywood movie soundtracks, has passed away at the age of 55.
The Brisibi family officially announced her death in a statement released on Thursday. They revealed that the beloved songstress died on March 23, 2026, following a prolonged illness.
“The Brisibi family announces with deep sorrow the passing of Esteemed Sister Onos Nancy Brisibi, who transitioned to glory on 23rd March 2026 after a protracted illness,” the family’s statement read.
Remembering her profound impact, the family paid tribute to her devout faith and her enduring musical legacy.
“Onos Nancy Brisibi was a devoted Christian, a gifted songstress, and a passionate praise and worship leader whose angelic voice touched many lives as she spread the gospel through music,” they said.
“She will be remembered as a beautiful, fun-loving woman with a heart of gold, whose faith, warmth, and kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew her,” the family added.
The news of Brisibi’s death has sent shockwaves across the Nigerian entertainment industry. Veteran broadcaster Emma Ugolee described the loss as “devastating”.
Ugolee noted that he had just received news of her critical condition while he was preparing a tribute to celebrate her monumental contributions to the industry.
Nollywood actress Stella Damasus also expressed her grief, stating that the singer’s passing “hurts,” while wishing her a peaceful rest.
Born on November 20, 1970, in Aladja, Delta state, to Ambrose Oproze and Mary Koko Brisibi, Onos began her illustrious music career at the tender age of nine.
She later rose to prominence as one of Nollywood’s most highly sought-after soundtrack artists. Her unmistakable vocals breathed life into iconic Nigerian films, including Domitilla, Mortal Inheritance, Deadly Passion, Blood Money, Deadly End, and Shame. In mainstream music, her distinctive voice was prominently featured on Lagbaja’s hit track Gra Gra.
Brisibi is survived by her daughter Sarah Brisibi, her mother, her siblings, extended family members, friends, and her church family at LoveWorld Ministries.
