Acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has openly praised veteran actress Bimbo Akintola, admitting that her colleague’s remarkable talent consistently challenges her own craft.
Akindele shared these sentiments while speaking at her Creative Blueprint 2.0 masterclass in Lagos, where she reflected on her extensive journey in the Nigerian film industry.
In a video clip from the event that has since gone viral, the filmmaker described Akintola as a profoundly talented actress who continuously pushes her to improve.
“There’s only one actor that I always shake for. If she acts, I rethink my career; Bimbo Akintola. She’s deep,” Akindele said.
Detailing how she observes the veteran’s performances, she added, “I studied her, her expressions, her modulation, her depth, and I told myself, ‘Funke, keep learning'”.
Akintola has been a prominent figure in Nollywood since the mid-1990s. She secured her legacy with unforgettable roles in classic and contemporary films such as Owo Blow, Out of Bounds, Diamond Ring, 93 Days, and The Black Book.
The veteran actress previously discussed her intricate acting technique in an interview with TheCable Lifestyle. Explaining her approach to embodying various roles, she emphasized the importance of studying the written material.
“For me, getting into the character is understanding the character and knowing who the character is, and everything I need to know is in the script.
“So once I learn who the character is, then I can become that character because it’s easier to be, and that is my process of getting into character,” she said.
