Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Monday imposed a 24-hour curfew on Igbajo in Boluwaduro Local Government Area following a violent breakdown of law and order that erupted overnight. The state government confirmed that the unrest began late Sunday and continued into the early hours of Monday, prompting urgent security measures to prevent further escalation.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government linked the disturbances to rising tensions surrounding the death of Prince Adegboyega Famodun, who passed away last week after a brief illness. The tension reportedly grew into open confrontation, resulting in violence significant enough to warrant a full lockdown.
“It is with deep shock and dismay that I received the sad news of the breakdown of law and order in Igbajo last night till the early hours of today,” Governor Adeleke said through the statement. He emphasised that his administration prioritises peace and stability and would not tolerate disruptions capable of undermining state security.

Asserting his constitutional role, the governor added, “Therefore, as the Chief Security Officer of Osun State, I hereby declare with immediate effect a total lockdown of the town pending the return to orderliness and harmonious coexistence in the hitherto peaceful and orderly Igbajo town.”
The curfew, which takes immediate effect, restricts movement entirely within the community. Residents have been urged to remain indoors while security agencies work to restore calm and prevent further disturbances.
To enforce the curfew, Governor Adeleke directed multiple security agencies including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—to commence 24-hour surveillance across Igbajo. The deployment aims to stabilise the situation, protect lives and property, and ensure that the violence does not spill into neighbouring areas.
The state government urged community leaders, youth groups, and residents to cooperate fully with security operatives and refrain from actions that could inflame the crisis. Authorities also assured that investigations into the cause and extent of the unrest are underway, with updates expected as stability is restored.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace across Osun State, stressing that no act of violence or breakdown of order will be permitted under any circumstances. With the curfew now in place, security forces are expected to remain on high alert until full normalcy returns to Igbajo.
