Two Miners Killed In Plateau Mining Site Attack

Two miners were shot dead on Friday night by gunmen in Kuru Jenta, Heipang District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. while the victims and other miners were reportedly carrying out activities at the mining site.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the attack in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.

Tengwong alleged that the miners were attacked by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias, describing the incident as unprovoked and unfortunate.

According to him, the latest attack occurred barely a week after two other miners were killed at another mining site in Rakum village, Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

The repeated attacks have raised fresh concerns over the safety of miners operating in parts of Plateau State, particularly in communities affected by recurring violence.

Tengwong called on security agencies to urgently investigate the latest incident and identify those responsible for the killings.

He urged the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators were arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The latest incident is expected to heighten concerns among mining communities in Barkin Ladi and neighbouring local government areas as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
