Champion Breweries Plc has announced the formal assumption of office of Mr. Malolan Sampath as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective September 1, 2026.
Sampath’s appointment marks a new phase in the company’s leadership transition, following the earlier decision by the Board of Directors to name him as the brewery’s next chief executive.
With more than 26 years of international leadership experience, Sampath brings extensive expertise spanning the beverage, fast-moving consumer goods, manufacturing and agro-industrial sectors.
His career has included leadership roles across Africa, where he has been involved in building, managing and transforming businesses in highly competitive markets.
Sampath also has significant experience in the beverage and brewing industry. He previously served as Managing Director of Unique Beverages in Angola and as Sales and Marketing Director for a PepsiCo bottling franchise.
His earlier career also included experience in the brewing sector, giving him industry-specific knowledge as he takes charge of Champion Breweries.
The company said his combination of international leadership exposure and experience across multiple consumer and industrial sectors positions him to lead the business through its next stage of development.
Sampath assumes the role at a time when Nigeria’s brewing and wider consumer goods industries continue to face a challenging operating environment, including changing consumer demand, production costs and intense market competition.

His experience in managing businesses across African markets is expected to be particularly relevant as Champion Breweries seeks to strengthen its operations and position in the competitive beverage industry.
The leadership transition also provides the company with an opportunity to leverage Sampath’s background in sales, marketing, manufacturing and business transformation as it pursues its corporate objectives.
Champion Breweries, which operates in Nigeria’s beverage industry, has not indicated any immediate changes to its strategic direction following the appointment.
Sampath’s assumption of office on September 1 formally completes the leadership transition announced by the Board and places him at the centre of the company’s executive management.
The new chief executive will now be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the company and driving its business priorities as Champion Breweries seeks to expand its market position and deliver sustainable growth.
