The Zamfara State Government has announced that about 300 suspected terrorists were killed during a major security operation in Gummi Local Government Area, describing the offensive as a significant milestone in the fight against banditry and terrorism in the North-West.

The operation, conducted on July 9, 2026, targeted criminal hideouts in parts of Gummi and dealt a heavy blow to armed groups that have for years terrorised communities across Zamfara and neighbouring states.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the State Commissioner for Information, Mahmud Dantawasa, said the successful operation underscored the growing effectiveness of ongoing military efforts to restore peace and security across the state.

He noted that the offensive represented a major breakthrough in the sustained campaign against terrorism and other violent crimes that have disrupted farming, commerce and normal socio-economic activities in Zamfara.

According to the commissioner, Governor Dauda Lawal commended the bravery, professionalism and sacrifices of personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies who participated in the operation.

The governor said the renewed offensive had strengthened public confidence in the government’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements and create a safer environment for residents.

Dantawasa stated that Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies through the provision of logistics, intelligence sharing and other lawful interventions designed to enhance ongoing operations.

He stressed that the state government would continue collaborating with federal security institutions to sustain pressure on terrorists and dismantle their operational networks.

The commissioner added that protecting lives and property remains a central objective of the administration’s Rescue Mission Agenda, assuring residents that no effort would be spared in securing communities affected by years of armed violence.

He urged citizens to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid ongoing operations and prevent criminal activities.

The state government also appealed to security forces to maintain the momentum of the offensive until every terrorist enclave and bandit camp across Zamfara is dismantled.

Dantawasa expressed optimism that sustained military operations, backed by intelligence-driven strategies and community support, would help restore lasting peace, revive economic activities and enable displaced residents to return safely to their communities.

Zamfara has remained one of the states hardest hit by banditry and terrorist attacks in recent years, with repeated military operations launched to neutralise armed groups and improve security across the region.
