A pall of gloom has descended on the Nigerian film industry following the shocking discovery of the lifeless bodies of two crew members inside a car on a movie set in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos.
The victims, identified as Ekemini ‘Gee Tee’ Imeh, a lighting director, and his associate, Ayodeji Walter Odediran, were found dead on Saturday within the premises of Evercare Hospital, which was being used as a filming location.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the two men had arrived early at the location to set up lighting equipment for the day’s shoot.
After completing the installation, they reportedly retreated into a Nissan vehicle parked on the property to rest.
A production staff member had earlier delivered breakfast to them while they were inside the car. As filming progressed, colleagues attempted to reach them via phone, but their calls went unanswered. It was not until production wrapped for the day that the grim discovery was made.
Confirming the incident, Abimbola Adebisi, spokesperson for the state police command, stated that the case was initially reported at the Maroko Police Station but has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for a comprehensive investigation.
“Autopsy and toxicology examinations are being conducted to determine the cause of death,” Adebisi revealed, adding that detectives are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
This incident marks the second tragedy to hit the Lagos entertainment scene in less than a week.
Just days prior, gospel artiste Matthew Ogundele and three members of his crew; Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya (popularly known as JoesTv), were found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah.
The consecutive deaths have raised concerns within the creative community, with many awaiting the results of the police investigations to understand what led to these sudden losses.
