A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Sagamu, Ogun State, has continued the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of a Lexus SUV involved in a fatal road crash that claimed the lives of two close aides of former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua.
Naija News reports that Kayode, 46, was arraigned before the court on January 2, with Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun presiding over the case. The defendant is facing a four-count charge bordering on dangerous and negligent driving.
According to the charge sheet, Kayode was accused of dangerous driving causing death, an offence contrary to Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F:135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State. Prosecutors alleged that his actions directly led to the fatal crash.
He was also charged with reckless and negligent driving, contrary to Section 6(1) of the same Act. Additional counts include driving without due care and attention, causing bodily harm and damage to property, contrary to Section 7(1), as well as driving without a valid national driver’s licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the Act.

The court had earlier granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two sureties required to perfect the bail conditions. The case was adjourned to a later date to allow the trial to continue.
The fatal accident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. According to reports, the Lexus SUV allegedly collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the death of the two aides who were said to be closely associated with former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
The incident sparked widespread attention and renewed public concern over road safety on major highways across the country, particularly the dangers posed by stationary vehicles without adequate warning signs.
As proceedings continue, the court is expected to hear further evidence and testimonies relating to the circumstances surrounding the crash. The case remains under close public scrutiny due to the high-profile nature of the victims and the ongoing calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent similar tragedies.
