The Olubadan-In-Council has nominated Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland, setting the stage for his formal ascension as the 44th traditional ruler of the historic city.

The decision was announced on Monday after a meeting of the kingmakers, in line with the city’s time-honored succession system. Ladoja, who currently holds the title of Otun Olubadan, is a prominent figure in Ibadan’s traditional and political circles. He served as the Governor of Oyo State from 2003 to 2007.

His nomination follows the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun, the 43rd Olubadan, whose reign came to an end earlier this year. With the governor’s ratification, Ladoja will officially assume the revered position, blending a legacy of political leadership with traditional authority.

The nomination of Ladoja is seen by many as a moment of continuity and stability for Ibadanland, given his deep roots in both governance and cultural heritage.
