Ten officers of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have been detained over alleged involvement in missing operational items.
A statement by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Wednesday confirmed that the officers were detained following the directives of the Executive Chairman, Mr Ola Olukoyede.
Oyewale, who did not mention the names of the detainees, said the action was in line with the chairman’s desire to rid the commission of corrupt tendencies.
He noted that investigations are ongoing, and those found culpable would face internal disciplinary actions.

The statement added: “The officers, who were arrested last week on the directives of the Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, are answering questions related to the theft of some operational items that they could not account for. “Investigators are making good progress, and those found culpable will be subjected to internal disciplinary processes.” It could be recalled that last week, the commission announced the dismissal of 27 officers from its workforce in 2024.
The commission further reassured the public of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and zero tolerance for corruption within its ranks. It noted that internal reforms and stricter monitoring mechanisms had been introduced to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. According to the statement, the ongoing probe is part of a broader effort to strengthen institutional integrity and restore public confidence. The agency also emphasized that any officer found guilty would face not only administrative sanctions but possible prosecution in line with existing laws.
