The Rivers State Police Command has invited a former Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, for questioning over an alleged plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, police sources confirmed on Monday.
Danagogo’s invitation follows the emergence of a leaked phone conversation reportedly linked to an ongoing police investigation. The call allegedly involves an arrested suspect and has sparked widespread concern and political tension in the state.
Although the police invitation letter sighted by DAILY POST did not state the reason for the summons, an anonymous source familiar with the matter said the move was connected to the leaked audio recording. According to the source, the conversation purportedly alludes to a plan targeting the former Rivers State governor, now serving as FCT minister.
“The invitation is related to a leaked phone conversation involving a suspect currently in custody,” the source said, requesting anonymity due to the sensitivity of the investigation. “The police want to clarify issues arising from that call.”
The Rivers State Police Command has not publicly commented on the details of the alleged plot or the contents of the leaked conversation. However, police sources emphasized that the invitation does not amount to a declaration of guilt and is part of standard investigative procedure.

Danagogo, who served as Secretary to the State Government during a previous administration, is yet to publicly respond to the invitation or the allegations linked to it. Efforts to reach him for comment as of press time were unsuccessful.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions in Rivers State, where rival camps aligned with different power blocs have traded accusations in recent months. Wike, a prominent political figure in the state and a key member of the federal cabinet, has remained influential in Rivers politics despite relocating to Abuja.
Security analysts say the police action underscores growing concern over political violence and threats against public office holders. They also urged restraint and reliance on due process while investigations are ongoing.
“The police are obligated to investigate any credible threat to life, especially involving a high-profile public official,” a Port Harcourt-based security expert said. “But it is important that the process remains professional and transparent.”
The Rivers State Police Command is expected to provide further clarification as investigations continue. For now, the invitation has added a new layer of controversy to the state’s already charged political atmosphere, with many awaiting official statements to shed light on the allegations and the outcome of the police probe.
