The conversation, which was marked as “official sensitive” was sent to a number of people internally but also to a former employee.

Within the email was a letter from a civil servant, which detailed concerns about a news organization having confidential information about the plans.

Despite the email being marked as official, the Welsh government said it “did not contain any operational information”.

A spokesperson for the permanent secretary, Andrew Goodall, who is the head of the Welsh Government Civil Service, said: “It was marked ‘official sensitive’ and should not have been shared.

“We take the issue of information and data security very seriously and this is now being investigated as a potential security breach.”

This year marks the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and she celebrated the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne in February – making her the first British monarch to reach the milestone.

To celebrate the occasion a variety of events and initiatives are taking place throughout the year, including a four-day bank holiday weekend.

The 95-year-old monarch, who is understood to be triple vaccinated, has also recently recovered from COVID-19.
