The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has condemned park management structures planned by some states, alleging that it is a ploy to groom thugs for the 2023 general elections.

National President of the union, Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa, said the planned initiative was against the spirit of Decrees numbers 21 and 22, which set up NURTW as a trade union, which has an affiliation with the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Baruwa made this known in a statement issued days after the Lagos state government appointed Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo, as its chairman of motorpark committiee after the NURTW leadership sacked him.

The NURTW boss said the union views the park management initiative in some states as “exploitative, fraudulent and an attempt to groom thugs and clowns for the politicians.”

“With this development, park management is not known to any law establishing the union, rather it is meant to encourage reign of terror,” he stated

Baruwa stated that the decision to dismiss MC Oluomo was meant to instill discipline among the members of the union.
