Cody Gakpo To Join Liverpool From PSV

The Dutch team PSV Eindhoven have confirmed that Liverpool and Dutch forward Cody Gakpo have reached an agreement.

The 23-year-old Cody Gakpo had an outstanding World Cup in Qatar, scoring three goals while assisting the Netherlands in their run to the quarterfinals.

Liverpool will pay an estimated 40 million to 50 million euros for the winger to join the Merseyside club in January.

Gakpo will travel to England to finalize the deal, according to PSV, who also noted that it would be a record transfer for them.

Liverpool made the move because forwards Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are facing lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Before now, Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Gakpo. Unfortunately for the Red side of Manchester, Liverpool have hijacked the deal.

A statement from PSV Eindhoven read: “The PSV management completed the negotiations on Boxing Day and gave Gakpo permission to travel to England.”

With nine goals and 12 assists in 14 league games for PSV, Gakpo has been in excellent form this season.

Additionally, in five Europa League appearances, he managed three goals and two assists.

He scored goals against Senegal, Ecuador, and Qatar in each of his nation’s World Cup group matches.

A player like Cody Gakpo is expected to spice up Liverpool’s attack from January and help the club fight for a top-four finish. Note that Liverpool, who are currently sixth in the Premier League, defeated Aston Villa 3-1 on Monday.
