The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Abubakar Atiku Abubakar’s decision to join the ruling party as a “generational statement,” framing it as a strong endorsement of APC governance and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a statement issued by the party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC said the move to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) speaks louder than any political rebuttal or press conference, signalling a shift in political allegiance driven by trust and conviction rather than rhetoric.

The party highlighted Atiku Abubakar’s history of switching parties from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Action Congress (AC), back to the PDP, and most recently the ADC as a factor that has raised public questions about his ideological consistency. His latest defection, APC said, reflects growing confidence in the ruling party’s leadership and policy direction.

Welcoming Atiku into its fold, Lagos APC described the development as a sign of changing political tides and urged Nigerians to view it as evidence that the era of “political tourism and ambition without ideology” is fading.

The party concluded by emphasising that credible leadership must inspire confidence at home, a principle it says Nigerians are increasingly evaluating in their political choices.

The move by Atiku’s son is expected to generate renewed attention in political circles ahead of the 2027 general elections, with analysts noting that defections by prominent figures can influence voter perception and party strength at both state and national levels.
